8th and 9th April.
Arrived on the Saturday before the shoot with Derrick Lovell, had a brilliant journey up, only got stuck on the M1 road works for a short while. For a bank holiday weekend, the weather was really spectacular. I had the practice butts all to myself for the afternoon and made good use of them! I was relying on Chris Wells to bring a tent to sleep in that night and by 8 o’clock he hadn’t arrived and I was getting quite worried. He eventually turned up and we managed to get set up in the dark - with a little help.
I spent the weekend with Reinar Kalmaru, John Inson and Jackie Wilkinson. We ended up being dubbed Jackie yellow and Jacqui black by John. John caused controversy over the colour yellow…which is just him all over. He later said that Jackie brought a lime and a lemon to the next tournament just to prove her point (see the GNAS field blog). I just wish I brought a camera with me to capture Rei hugging trees. I shot really well on the Sunday, all my work with Al Goldsmith really paid off and I got all my distance estimations spot on. I ended up being only 5 points short of GMB! I put nearly 30 points on my personal best and I was able to claim my black arrowhead award. Unfortunately my shooting let me down on the marked day and I only scored 262, but it was still a pb! The combined score meant I came 3rd overall.
One thing I’ve learnt - never camp in April in Yorkshire!
