Jacqui Gould - A Brief History

Jacqueline moved from Hampshire to Kent in August 1999, so she only went to Valley Park Community School for 3 years then went on to Invicta Grammar School for a further two years. Whilst there she gave two school assemblies on archery. The first was a talk to 300 children; the second was to demonstrate archery to 100 children.

She actually took up archery one week before her 15th birthday in 2001 when she found a local club at Crown Archers, Recreation Close in Maidstone run by Ron Simpson. She took up the sport due to her interest in medieval history. Within the first few months of starting archery, she was asked to join the county team and has been a part of it since. In a very short time she was winning medals. To date she has 50 trophies, 32 awards and nearly 120 medals. On reaching her 18th birthday (senior level) she has been the undisputed Lady Champion of Kent in all classifications (field, longbow, outdoor target and indoor target).

Jacqueline is in her 3rd year at the University of Greenwich where she is reading Geology. In her spare time she does voluntary coaching at an evening class that her instructor runs in Rochester. She has also taught archery in several events, these include the massive Scout meeting in 2004 and the Kent County Show these past two years, which was aimed at promoting the sport in Kent. This proved highly successful. She also works in the coffee shop in Tesco's Grove Green store.

In the forthcoming year, Jacqueline can make the GB University team and Master Bowman classification, with the help of others. These two goals are merely steps towards her ultimate prize, to be crowned 2012 Olympic Ladies Champion. Jacqueline is working hard towards her goal, practising no matter what the weather may be. She is looking for sponsorship to achieve this. Funding is essential as it is necessary to travel round the country to attend tournaments. Also to be in the Olympics, you need a second set of equipment. As you can imagine being a student with only a part time job does not pay a lot, but she has managed to buy her own equipment over the last few years, forgoing lots of things 20 year olds do.
